1111 by Erin Rothstein
Eleven Eleven is the creative playground of hyperrealist artist Erin Rothstein. Her paintings are typically recognized for their striking level of detail and meticulous (if not obsessive) brushwork, in their depiction of everyday objects on stark white backgrounds. But underneath the veil of minimalist pop-art, there is so much more... a need to play, to express, and to be free. If Rothstein's hyperreal paintings are the top of the cupcake, these are the bottom of the cupcake. They are the foundation of her artistic expression. They make her other work possible. They are the underside of hyperrealism, for the seekers who want to know more. Eleven Eleven was the ONLY name for this collection. Rothstein has twins born on 11/11, and the number tends to show up in her life as a sort of checkpoint or sign, letting her know that she's on the right path. This entire series is about letting go of control, and letting things unfold in the most natural and beautiful way. It is for that reason that she begins each painting with a blindfold. These pieces are not planned, or carefully curated. They're real and open... honest and raw. They are physical representations of the creative forces that guide her hyperrealist work. They are the mess you do not see.
